Park Over Property (POP)

Directions: From Awanui SH10/SH1 Junction, head Northeast on SH1 (sign for Cape Reinga) for 32km. Driveway is on the left 500m north of Houhora Fire Station.  There is a sign at the entrance to the driveway as per photo. We are 800m up driveway, Lot 3, Turn left into the house driveway, the gate to the parking area is opposite the large grey shed. Larger vehicles may choose to go around the loop which is near the grey shed for easier access.Additional Info: Handy to Houhora Fishing Club and Boat Ramp, 1km to Houhora Four Square, Cafe/Bar and Fuel. 50 mins to Cape Reinga with many East Coast Bays and Walking tracks to explore. 15mins to 90 mile BeachRestrictions: Please phone or text prior to arrival. Dogs must be on Leads at all times.

What a great place from which to explore the many beaches on the Karikari peninsula. Brett and Bronwen are so welcoming. I can’t recommend this POP highly enough...

From i-SITE Kaitaia: Head north on SH1, travel approx. 8.3kms. Turn right onto SH10, travel approx. 14.6kms. Turn left onto the Karikari Peninsula, Inland Rd, travel 10.5kms. Turn left onto Rangiputa Rd, travel approx. 5kms then turn left onto Gillies Rd; travel to the end. Electric gates, with entry code required. Additional Information: Beach access, boat launching, fish filleting bench, smoker, bait freezer. Additional facilities will be available to campers if not being utilised by Motel guests: dinghy, kayak & BBQ.

From Mangonui: Head northwest on SH10 approx. 2.5kms toward Coopers Beach, past shopping centre. Club is on left hand side of SH10. Restrictions: Parking at rear of Club. Facilities available only during Club open hours.

From north: Head north on SH10. Take 1st road on right over Taipa Bridge. Additional Information: Proximity to restaurant, tavern, superette & service station. Restrictions: Max. all vehicles length 7.5m. Dogs must be on leads at all times.

This is great place to stay. Lovely old pub. The area has lots of history. We had a really lovely meal.

From Kaeo/SH10: Travel north approx. 2.8kms. At intersection, turn right onto Whangaroa Rd, travel approx. 4.2kms then turn right onto Wainui Rd. After approx. 1.2kms, turn left onto Ota Point Rd; site is approx. 300m on left. Additional Information: Flat metal parking area on bottom level with good wide entrance. Extra parking for smaller vehicles on 2nd level. Proximity to beaches & boat ramp. Restrictions: MUST phone prior to arrival. Dogs must be on leads at all times as is a kiwi zone.

From Taipa bridge: Turn onto Oruru Rd, travel approx. 13kms past Peria School. Turn left onto Honeymoon Valley Rd, past the marae then slight right onto Peria Valley Rd; site is 1st gateway on right. Additional Information: Sealed road. Quiet, bush edged. Restrictions: NO dogs. Max. vehicle length 12m. Limited phone reception; leave message.

From south: Travel SH1, head into Kaitaia. Turn right onto Matthews Ave. Restrictions: Facilities only available when Club is open; midday to close; (Sun, Mon closed); kitchen open Wed to Fri; lunch & dinner.

From Kaitaia: Head south on SH1, approx. 10kms, site is on the right. Additional Information: Water seasonal, toilet open during day, power restricted to daytime due to solar energy. Restrictions: Dos MUST be on leads. Max. 8 vehicles in winter.
