Steps for existing self-containment officers operating under NZS 5465:2001

  • Step 1: Register your information to attend a practical training session HERE , or apply in writing to [email protected] signalling your interest to become a vehicle inspector.
  • Step 2: You will receive further information and a form to complete confirming you have read, understood, and agree to follow the NZMCA’s technical guidelines and all other information/instructions while inspecting vehicles for the NZMCA. Return this form to the NZMCA. The technical guidelines and inspection form can be found under the Resources section HERE.
  • Step 3(a): If you want to attend a practical training session, the ambassador(s) running the session will take your details on the day and confirm with National Office that you have attended the training session and have the necessary knowledge to carry out inspections under the new regulations.  
  • Step 3(b): If you want to complete the online assessment, you will be sent an online link.
  • Step 4: After successfully attending the training session or passing the online assessment, you will receive a confirmation letter and a new vehicle inspector kit from the NZMCA.

How to become a new Vehicle Inspector with the NZMCA if you are a registered plumber:

  • Step 1: Apply in writing to [email protected] to become a vehicle inspector and attach a copy of your current PGDB registration card.
  • Step 2: You will receive an email from the NZMCA confirming receipt of your application along with a form for you to sign confirming your contact details, that you have read, understood, and agree to follow the NZMCA’s technical guidelines, inspection form, and all other instructions while inspecting vehicles for the NZMCA.  The technical guidelines and inspection form can be found under the Resources section HERE.
  • Step 3: Upon receipt of your signed form, you will receive a confirmation letter and vehicle inspector kit from the NZMCA.
