We are now actively recruiting volunteer camp hosts. Volunteer camp hosts need to volunteer for a minimum of 2 weeks throughout the course of the season (Oct-April).

Spend a week or more volunteering at Peel forest campground which is located within the Peel Forest Park Scenic Reserve. We are ideally looking for camp hosts who are available long term or for multiple shifts and weekends.

Every year from October to April.

Description
Volunteer for three weeks or longer at our Serviced Campsite within the Peel Forest Park Scenic Reserve.

Tasks
The primary role of a camp host at the Peel Forest Campsite is to add value to the visitor experience by:

  • Welcoming campers to the campsite and acting as the main point of contact within the campsite, you will be working alongside camp managers and cleaners
  • checking that campers have paid camp fees and taking payment via a mobile eftpos machine when necessary, issuing receipts and camp registration tickets
  • frequent communication with DOC staff via mobile phone
  • providing information to campers about local walks, issuing and selling DOC information brochures
  • monitoring cleanliness of the camp
  • reporting maintenance requirements to DOC staff.

What to expect
Accommodation: Applicants must have their own accommodation and will ideally have their own campervan, caravan or motorhome but a family style tent will also be considered.

Skills required:

  • be able to relate to a range of people in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • be fluent in English
  • have a practical outlook
  • some experience relevant to this opportunity preferred but not essential.

Age: Applicants must be aged 20 years or over.

Dogs: Are not permitted at Peel Forest campsite.

Nearest facilities: Peel Forest campsite is 20 minutes from Geraldine

What will be provided

  • Powered campsite for your campervan, caravan or motorhome.
  • Flush toilet facilities, hot shower.
  • DOC camp host identification, volunteer name badge, high viz vest, uniform, etc.
  • Eftpos machine for taking payment.
  • Cleaning equipment, gloves, paper overalls etc.
  • Daily manifest provided by camp managers of camp bookings.

We'll review applications and assign weeks as they come in and space is available.

Safety checks
Everyone who applies for this position is subject to a DOC safety check and Ministry of Justice criminal record check. Information about these checks will be provided after you apply.

What happens after you apply

  1. We’ll shortlist applicants and email the safety check form for you to complete.
  2. We’ll contact you about an interview time – the interview will be with a DOC staff member and it’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the role.
  3. We’ll talk to your referees.
  4. We’ll request a Ministry of Justice criminal record check – this takes around three days.
  5. DOC staff will assess all the material provided and decide on suitability.
  6. Once approved we will work with you to find dates that suit you and complete your induction.
